ESPCI highlights the article by Paolo Edera et al.
Congratulations to Paolo Edera, Stefano Aime, and Michel Cloître for their article "Mechanical Tuning of Residual Stress, Memory, and Aging in Soft Glassy Materials featured on the ESPCI Paris website -SPL
Pasty materials have the ability to retain the memory of their past mechanical history. This mechanical memory can have consequences on implementation, durability, and the determination of properties. By applying a carefully chosen periodic deformation, it is possible to erase this memory.
Paolo Edera, Stefano Aime, and Michel Cloître, in collaboration with the University of Texas, show how matter can learn and forget.

How airbags work?
Thomas gave us the chemical explanation on E=M6!
The violent decomposition of sodium azide (NaN3) contained in the system when heated causes the rapid formation of a large quantity of nitrogen, an inert gas that inflates the airbag.
